Privacy & data removal
Last updated: 2026 · TechScout is in beta.
TechScout builds technology intelligence about websites — the software a site runs (CMS, e-commerce platform, plugins, analytics, hosting) and how that stack has changed over time. This page explains what we collect, why, and how a business can have its information removed.
What we collect
- Technical signals observable from a public web page — response headers, HTML, script sources, DNS/hosting, TLS — used to detect the technology stack.
- Business contact details published on public pages — e.g. an email, phone, or social link shown on a company's own contact or imprint page.
- Account data for signed-in users — your name and email, handled by our authentication provider (Clerk).
We only process information that is already publicly available on the web, or that you provide by creating an account. We do not buy personal data, and we do not run advertising trackers.
Why (legal basis)
For business/technology intelligence we rely on legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) in analysing publicly available information about businesses' websites. Account data is processed to provide the service you signed up for.
Retention
Because the product is about change over time, we keep historical snapshots of a site's technical signals. You can request removal at any time (below).
Analytics & error monitoring
We use PostHog (EU-hosted) to understand product usage and catch errors. It is configured to keep data in the EU; we do not use it for advertising.
Your rights & removal
If you represent a business listed here, you can ask us to access, correct, or remove its data — including any scraped contact details. Submit a removal request with the domain, and we'll action it within 30 days (usually much sooner).
On any site's profile page you'll also find a “Report / remove this listing” link that opens a pre-filled request.
